Day 19: Inconceivable (Luke 4:31-38)

Today’s Passage: Luke 4:31-38

Is it? You might be asking, “Is what inconceivable?”

The scene you just read about. Can you hold in your mind a brilliant teacher, a person possessed by many demons from a world we cannot see, and this brilliant teacher, healing the demon-possessed man?

Can someone you think is brilliant, simultaneously cast out demons? Before you answer, let’s put an even sharper point on this situation. Can someone who teaches with authority, cast out demons—demons who address him as “The Holy One of God”.

Is Jesus, well, inconceivable? Because in this scene we come to the crux of what we will be faced with over and over again.

When face-to-face with Jesus, our physical-spiritual world emerges in ways that Jesus, the author of the world, illuminates. Let me say that differently. If that demon was in that man (and if angels are afoot) what does that mean for you and me as we go about our day?
