Genesis Day 37: Laughing with God
A few days ago, I wrote about “having a good laugh”.
Can you picture you and God having a good laugh?
Seriously. After all, God did name him!
Laughing with people… those delightful moments, when, with your family and friends you are laughing so hard, it is joyfully painful.
Consider this moment for Sarah.
The joy must be bubbling out, overflowing from, Sarah. Who could have imagined she would be a mom? Yes, God promised, she laughed, and Isaac’s name was set! I like to imagine that God was thinking to himself, “It would be a good great joyful laugh, wouldn’t it!”
Now comes the day, the day to name their son—their precious son. His name? Laughter, of course!
And everyone laughed. Sarah, her friends—everyone—including God.
Which really is the question, to ask of myself, and of you—do you include God?
Many of us know to offer God thanks. My sense, though, is we expect that we are thanking Him as He leaves. What if God stayed around and laughed with you?
Would it be okay for you and God to be together, having a great healthy and hearty laugh?
It may seem like a silly question, but I think not.
There is a famous poem called “Footprints” which describes one set of footprints in the sand along a beach. The poem describes how God is with you—and the reason for only one set of footprints is because God is carrying you. There are several other poems and writings that point out God’s presence with us when we are in pain or sorrow—are there any when we are celebrating?
